School of Educational Studies Assistant Professor Allison Hintz is part of a team that won a grant of nearly $50,000 to research how elementary school teachers listen to students, particularly as students struggle with mathematics.

Hintz is part of the three-member team which includes a researcher at University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM.
Hintz will partner with local teachers at Woodmoor Elementary in Woodinville.
"I am eager to continue learning alongside our community partners in the Northshore School District,” says Hintz, noting the research advances University of Washington Bothell goals of community engagement and connected learning.
“Our partnership is grounded in shared commitments to fostering collaborative, reciprocal learning and bridging theory and practice,” she says.
