\n\tBarbara Endicott-Popovsky is the executive director of the Center for Information Assurance & Cybersecurity (CIAC) at the University of Washington headquartered at UW Bothell. \n\tEndicott-Popovsky, Ph.D., says the executive order is a \u201ccritical next step to knit together the efforts of the private and public sectors.\u201d Federal government agencies, she adds, have been \u201casleep at the switch \u2013 they haven\u2019t been grappling with the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\tCybersecurity vulnerabilities are one of today\u2019s most pressing issues, she says. \u201cCouple this with lack of qualified people who are prepared to defend, and you have a recipe for disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\tUW Bothell also offers two degree options in cybersecurity, including a Bachelor of Science in computer science and software engineering and a Master of Science in cybersecurity engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\tA national threat

Thus, \u201cthere\u2019s not a recognition by the general population that cybersecurity is a local problem impacting them.
