With a presence that spans Indonesia to Australia, France to Cambodia and beyond, she has received global acclaim for her installations and exhibits.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the process, Ali has put the University of Washington Bothell on the international arts map. \u201cShe has invigorated attention to our campus as a place of critically engaged, globally minded creative arts,\u201d said Dr. Dan Berger, professor in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/ias\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">School of Interdisciplinary Arts &amp; Sciences<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recognition of her contributions to UW Bothell, Ali has received the 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/academic-affairs\/awards\/drsca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Distinguished Research, Scholarship &amp; Creative Activities Award<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>An outsized visibility<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ali arrived on campus in 2016. Along with a full teaching load as a senior-artist-in-residence, she has continued an ambitious schedule of exhibits and performances all over the world. Look closer, and you\u2019ll see Muslim elements in the Bug, including the headpiece that evokes a hijab \u2014 sometimes worn by women in the ethnic minority Cambodian Muslim community to which Ali and her family belong.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She has performed the piece in classrooms and dining halls, galleries and streets all over the world. An anomaly, the Buddhist Bug wordlessly interacts with curious onlookers. At the same time, Ali weaves a spirit of cheekiness and joy into 足彩app哪个是正规的 Red Chador. It sits at the \u201cintersection of fabulousness and feminism,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though she tackles serious political issues in her practice, Ali animates her work with playfulness and over-the-top humor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the other part of our humanity that I think, in these dire times, we don\u2019t lean into enough,\u201d she said. \u201cSometimes we take ourselves too seriously; we\u2019re a little afraid to laugh or to be ridiculous.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>足彩app哪个是正规的 in-between<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Also crucial to Ali\u2019s practice is her identity as a transnational artist. With one foot in the United States and another in Southeast Asia, she has embraced the in-between place as a point of power. \u201cIt\u2019s a powerful idea for provocation \u2014 a powerful impetus for it.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That philosophy informs her teaching practice, too. In her classes, which span filmmaking, writing, movement and performance, she challenges students to share their work in public.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cArt can happen anywhere and everywhere,\u201d Ali said. \u201cDon\u2019t wait for a museum or gallery or white walls to put your work up.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UW Bothell students also benefit from her international presence. Ali makes a point of taking photos and shooting video of exhibits as she travels. What kept them coming back? \u201cShe has a way of pushing you out of your comfort zone,\u201d said Owens. \u201cShe\u2019s so passionate about her art, it inspires you to want to do more.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Negron said he learned to persevere through creative setbacks in Ali\u2019s classes. \u201cShe\u2019s very blunt and direct about how I\u2019m going to do better,\u201d he said. \u201cNot that I <em>can <\/em>or <em>have to<\/em>, but the potential is there. I\u2019ll do it. I\u2019ll be successful.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leaning into the power of Ali\u2019s belief, students imagine \u2014 and manifest \u2014 new possibilities for themselves and their work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnida\u2019s tremendous accomplishments are a gift to our campus,\u201d said Berger, \u201cmost especially in the students who get to take her classes but also to the broader campus community, which benefits from the ways she brings color, performance and the arts to UW Bothell.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>&#8220;[Ali] has a way of pushing you out of your comfort zone.
