How has the job of campus photographer changed since the coronavirus pandemic forced remote operations? Marc Studer answers a few questions from Laura Mansfield.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q. What would you normally be doing now and where would you be? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A.<\/strong> I would normally be in my office on campus in LB2, answering emails\u202fand\u202fplanning for shoots.\u202fPre-pandemic, I was averaging three photo or video shoots per day.\u202fOnce a shoot is finished, the job is\u202fonly\u202fone-third\u202fdone.\u202f足彩app哪个是正规的re is a lot of post-shoot editing and archiving. As a campus photographer, I\u2019m responsible for pictures taken today but also 20 years ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q. How\u202fis working from home going? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A.<\/strong> I\u2019m up at 7 a.m. to\u202fcheck emails.\u202fBefore I left campus, I pulled all the hard drives from my office. I now have five hard drives connected to my home computer \u2013 over 18\u202fterabytes\u202fof images. I am missing the UW bandwidth. When you try to work with large images or video in the cloud, it slows down your internet. And that means no Netflix for anyone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q. What adjustments have you made to complete your work? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Zoom fort.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

A.<\/strong> I\u2019m on Zoom calls for much of the day. I\u2019ve made myself a Zoom fort (Fort Awesome).\u202fI made the fort when I realized I would be spending lots of time here.\u202fI\u202fstarted\u202fmoving things \u2026 and moving one thing led to five. Everything I need is in arms reach, and my lighting is optimized for video. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am an essential employee, so I am making trips to campus. I have been filming some of the STEM faculty doing experiments so they can conduct their labs remotely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q. What are you trying to work on (or just do) today?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A.<\/strong> I\u2019m producing a video to teach faculty how to make their own Zoom fort (a space set up for video teaching). It will include tips on how to improvise lighting and sound. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q. What are you doing to care for yourself or for others? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A. <\/strong>I own a one-wheel scooter. I\u2019m out on it every day. I hang a camera around my neck, and I\u2019m ready to take a picture. 足彩app哪个是正规的 scooter allows me to explore so many nooks and\u202fcrannies that I never knew existed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I always have little side\u202fprojects going.\u202fWithout\u202fa\u202fdaily\u202fcommute, I have more time.\u202fEarly on, I made face masks. I have rebuilt my workspace. I went through my library and was shocked at the size of the paranormal section!\u202fI\u2019m also binging some Netflix (\u201cWestworld\u201d). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, I\u2019m drinking coffee like a fish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q. Do you have a change of perspective to share \u2014 about life or work? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You need to take care of yourself. It\u2019s important to take a break from the news. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q. What other thoughts or feelings do you want to share? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A.<\/strong> We\u2019re\u202fgonna\u202fmake it. 足彩app哪个是正规的re will be changes to the workforce; it is all going to change. It\u2019s going to be\u202fsuper rough for a lot of people. Every day you hold out is a day closer to getting better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
