\nCampus clubs are where college students can follow their hearts, pursue hobbies, complement their studies and try new things \u2014 without any grades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c足彩app哪个是正规的y\u2019re their own community where they\u2019re motivating each other,\u201d said Michele Price, faculty adviser for the Biology Club. \u201c足彩app哪个是正规的y get so much out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

足彩app哪个是正规的re are about 50 active clubs at the University of Washington Bothell<\/a>. Members hold meetings, lead programs and sponsor events. New clubs are constantly forming in response to fresh interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Backing them up are advisers such as Price, a lecturer in the School of STEM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supporting student ideas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Because of the nature of the school calendar, clubs tend to bloom like annual flowers. An initial burst of organizing and ideas is tempered by the time required for authorizations to spend student activity fees or to book event space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As officers move on to other interests or graduate, clubs sometimes falter or even expire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given this natural cycle, club members often need guidance from someone who shares their vision, knows how the university operates and can encourage the next round of leaders. That\u2019s the perennial role of faculty and staff who volunteer to serve as advisers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For most, it is a labor of love. 足彩app哪个是正规的 amount of time that advising requires can be significant, but advisers usually share an interest in the purpose of the club. In every case, they care about the students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cultivating new leaders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Price helped revive a faltering biology club because \u201cI thought it was really important for our campus to have this community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Camilo Acosta-Garcia, the club\u2019s event coordinator, had a simple description for Price\u2019s role: \u201cour rock.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe encourages us, but she lets us develop,\u201d said Acosta-Garcia, a Biology senior. \u201cShe lets us do our thing at every event but steers us in the right direction and gives us new ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By organizing events, students recognize they can have an impact on others, said another adviser, Salwa Al-Noori. A biology lecturer in the School of STEM, she advises two clubs: the 足彩app哪个是正规的 Association for Immigrants and Refugees and a club called Child Rights and You, which is part of a national nonprofit organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a really great way for them to develop their own leadership and confidence, and to feel what they\u2019re doing is important and has a role in the community,\u201d Al-Noori said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI want to be involved to support their mission,\u201d she said. \u201cYou can see the passion in their eyes and excitement when they\u2019re trying to make things happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No training is required to be a club adviser, but UW Bothell\u2019s Office of 足彩app哪个是正规的 Engagement & Activities offers orientations for faculty and staff. 足彩app哪个是正规的 next ones are Jan. 22 and 23 from 11 a.m. to noon in ARC 121.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opening more doors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

School of Business Dean Sandeep Krishnamurthy advises three clubs: the Blockchain Society, the Indian 足彩app哪个是正规的 Association and a club called Rotaract, which is a Rotary Club International partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blockchain cofounder Zack Nelson said Krishnamurthy quickly responds to questions and has connected the club to some of his business contacts. \u201cHe spends time and cares,\u201d said Nelson, a senior majoring in Global Studies and in Media & Communications Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business Associate Professor Surya Pathak and Assistant Professor G\u00fclru \u00d6zkan advise the Supply Chain Management Club. 足彩app哪个是正规的y invite business leaders to campus to speak and network, said Emi Diko, a Business senior and marketing officer for the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dSometimes, the faculty have more of an impact on students than they realize \u2014 just for being there for us,\u201d Diko said. \u201c足彩app哪个是正规的ir help is greatly appreciated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gary Carpenter, an artist and lecturer in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, helped arrange for a new club, Palette Talk, to use the art studio in the Beardslee Building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI love that this club is student-driven,\u201d he said. \u201c足彩app哪个是正规的y\u2019re all very serious about the arts and incorporating art into their lives. 足彩app哪个是正规的y just wanted to broaden their circle and make this accessible to campus. It\u2019s really rewarding to see.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Staff member Jama\u2019l Chukueke, director of Recreation & Wellness at UW Bothell, doesn\u2019t play much pool (\u201cI\u2019m terrible\u201d), but he advises the Brilliant Billiards Club. One table in the Commons provides friendly competition and stress relief for hundreds of students. 足彩app哪个是正规的 club is responsible for its maintenance. \u201d足彩app哪个是正规的re are a lot of life elements that go into this pool table, this club,\u201d Chukueke said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Making student connections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Clubs are one of the biggest opportunities for students to find others with similar aspirations on campus, said Carla Christensen, assistant director of the Office of 足彩app哪个是正规的 Engagement & Activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SEA backs up the clubs and their advisers with a professional staff. While the advisers bring their passion and an ability to align a club in the big picture, SEA staff support logistics, promote best practices and ensure the proper use of student fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Club Council of six student employees in SEA also helps with planning, marketing and training new officers. 足彩app哪个是正规的 council votes weekly on spending requests. This year, the council members had $100,000 from the Services & Activities Fee fund to allocate for various events, programs and promotional items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clubs welcome new members any time, but the best opportunity to see all the possibilities each year is at the annual Activities & Resources Fair, which typically occurs on the first day of autumn quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As students cross the Plaza or walk the Promenade between classes, they can see clubs displaying information on tables, talk to members and join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c足彩app哪个是正规的 student life and vibrancy and the engagement opportunities we have on this campus wouldn\u2019t be what they are if not for the work of our clubs,\u201d Christensen said. \u201cAnd all of our clubs are volunteer student work \u2014 purely a project of love.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
