Teaching<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Specializations: Rhetorical history, theory, and methods; writing studies; women and gender studies. My goal as a teacher, scholar, and writing program administrator is to make literacy practices and knowledge acquisition more accessible and effective in academic sites. My courses are designed to engage students in interactive performances of critical inquiry, rhetorical awareness, reading, writing, and research appropriate to a diverse and technologically robust context. I function as an expert guide and coach to support student work and to push students to grow as purposeful and curious communicators and researchers. In my courses, we view issues from numerous critical perspectives, using a range of documents and discourses that reflect the complexities of real world problems. I also strive to make such learning active, collaborative, and experiential to reflect the rich research occurring across the globe. Ultimately, I emphasize that writing and research are not lifeless and tedious acts, but lively and crucial means to engage in our communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research\/Scholarship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My research largely concentrates on the intersections of language, image and power in the areas of rhetoric, writing studies and women and gender studies. In sum, I am interested in the stories we tell ourselves and each other and how these stories function in our lives, communities and institutions.
