{"id":6561,"date":"2015-05-05T13:16:12","date_gmt":"2015-05-05T13:16:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/?p=6561"},"modified":"2024-08-08T18:40:08","modified_gmt":"2024-08-08T18:40:08","slug":"lgbtqai-resources","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/career-services\/people-we-serve\/diverse-students\/lgbtqai-resources","title":{"rendered":"LGBTQ+ students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Career resources for LGBTQIA+ students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As an individual who is queer, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, et al., entering the workforce, you may have questions or concerns about how to approach various aspects of your job, internship or volunteer search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Frequent career-related questions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Should I come &#8220;out&#8221; on the job\/internship\/volunteer site?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should I highlight experiences with LGBTQIA+ organizations on my application materials?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are there LGBTQIA+ friendly organizations\/employers?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What should I say or not say in an interview?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, many of these questions do not have one-size-fits-all answers. It is up to the individual to assess their situation and comfort level regarding how open they are about their sexual orientation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UW Bothell Career Services provides a safe place for students to share their career related concerns and questions while assisting you in your application processes.  Below are some resources that you may find useful. We encourage you to <a href=\"\/career-services\/appointments\">make an appointment<\/a> as you start your job and internship search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Job search resources<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.outforwork.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Out For Work<\/a> is a nonprofit dedicated to educating, preparing, and empowering LGBTQ college students and their allies for the workplace. Includes a career library of information and conferences for students and alumni.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.outprofessionals.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Out Professionals<\/a> is a networking organization helping LGBTQ individuals connect to advance their careers. Resources include a directory of businesses, women&#8217;s network, LGBT events and links, and volunteer opportunities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Professional associations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hrc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Human Rights Campaign<\/a> has resources on everything from coming out to addressing workplace discrimination, including a list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrc.org\/resources\/lgbt-professional-and-student-associations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">professional and student organizations<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nglcc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce<\/a> is the business voice of the LGBT community.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.noglstp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional resources<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lambdalegal.org\/about-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lambda Legal<\/a> is a national LGBT civil rights organization. Website includes information about workplace discrimination cases.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/transgenderlawcenter.org\/resources\/employment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transgender Law Center<\/a> is a nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging in effective advocacy for transgender people in our society.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetaskforce.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National LGBTQ Task Force<\/a> advances full freedom, justice, and equality for LGBTQ people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/outandequal.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Out &amp; Equal<\/a> supports companies, HR, and Diversity &amp; Inclusion professionals to help create workplaces where LGBTQ employees can be out and thrive.
