Accessibility
Digital accessibility starts with us
Digital accessibility means that websites, applications, and other digital content are designed, developed, and written to be accessible and usable. Making digital content accessible is essential for people with disabilities, helpful for everyone, and supports UW values by fostering a diverse and inclusive community.
Digital accessibility helps ensure everyone can learn, work, and engage at the University of Washington. This video,
UW’s Digital Accessibility Initiative, highlights free digital accessibility training and resources, and explains how you can help build a more accessible and inclusive UW—now and beyond the April 26, 2026 substantial compliance deadline.
On April 24, 2024, the Department of Justice (DOJ) published a new rule on digital accessibility under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This rule requires the University’s web content, including academic course content, to be accessible starting on April 24, 2026.
All student accommodation requests will continue to be managed by DRS. Please work with their office to submit necessary files to the central DRS office so they can provide accessible versions to each student and other accommodations to ensure students needs are met.
