pre-ipo
financial system
Our client, one of the largest
shipping companies in the world, required a customized accounting
and financial system to replace its outdated mainframe version.
The system had to be finished within 3 months.
We ported the mainframe system to a new Visual Basic / Oracle client
server system. All mainframe functions and additional functions
were designed to be written into the new Benefits system. Feeds
from human resources were batched into the Benefits system. Several
batch processes were created to handle the many transactions occurring
that tracked the $300 million fund. Extensive and complete transaction
results and errors were tracked in real time allowing users to analyze
transactions as they occurred. Several different methods of database
access were analyzed for optimum performance.
We wrote and implemented an Oracle script version control system
to house all scripts for database development. The automated version
control system executed the scripts and returned error codes and
automatically saved all version changes of all scripts. Over 70
screens were created. Extensive and complex financial calculations
were implemented. Interest was generated by the system. The system
generated checks, statements, and many reports. Oracle was installed
and then optimized during the design phase. All pertinent mainframe
data was converted and housed in the Oracle database. Many business
rules were implemented at the database level. Documentation was
created outlining the entire system in detail. Several million rows
of data were housed in this database that affected over 200,000
employees. The finished system met all original requirements going
into production. The production system ran so well, we saved our
client over 60% of their production maintenance budget.
